Paisley Bridal, a bridal shop, in Middle Village, Queens, seems out of place on a business strip mostly populated with small chain businesses and run of the mill New York City take out restaurants. But, Nicole Vega, 31, the owner, has made it work.
“When I first opened up, some of the older people who’ve lived here forever, would say to me ‘Aw, sweety, you’ll be done in six months,'” said, Vega.
Yet, since opening her doors in February, Vega’s appointment book has been full, and business has been good. She said that most of her customers find her online and through social media.
“Yelp has been a huge help,” said, Vega. “One of my customers told me she chose my shop over Kleinfeld’s because I had better Yelp reviews.”
Kleinfeld Bridal, located in the Flatiron District, is one of the most well known bridal shops in New York City and has built itself a reputation over the decades as the go to bridal shop in the city.
Vega, who is from Queens, used to work there, but when she had her baby, she decided that she wanted to work somewhere closer to home. That decision ultimately led her to open Paisley Bridal and she has not looked back since.
“It’s nice. It’s a happy business. Everyday, I just get to make people happy.”
